MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. traces its roots in B.C. to 1911 with the establishment of Bloedel, Stewart and Welch. In 1919, Harvey MacMillan, along with W.J. VanDusen, established the H.R. MacMillan Export Company to sell British Columbia lumber on the world market. In 1951, the two companies joined to form MacMillan & Bloedel Ltd. H.R. MacMillan began his career in the forest industry as B.C.'s first chief forester in 1912. In 1919 he established his own company, H.R. MacMillan Export Co. Ltd. This was expanded in the 1950s to become the forestry giant, MacMillan Bloedel.
